Ca parle d’auto-congratulations hollywoodiennes, d’hommes politiques verrolés et de télévision. Et si ca pourrait être l’histoire résumée des USA des temps modernes, ce n’est rien de plus que le chassé-croisé plutôt original de ces derniers jours. Mais prenons les choses dans l’ordre…
It’s about hollywoodian auto-congratulations, it’s about dirty political figures and it’s about television. And if it could be the summary of the modern history of the USA, it is merely about the odd crossed over stories of the past few days. But lets start at the beginning…
Jack A. Abramoff (born February 28, 1959) is a United States political lobbyist and businessman who pled guilty on January 3, 2006 to three criminal felony counts in federal court. On January 4, Abramoff pled guilty in a separate matter to two criminal felony counts in a different federal court.

Abramoff, du haut de ces 5 chefs d’accusation, est, depuis un moment, la cible favorite des media (et accessoirement le cauchemar des républicains). Puisqu’on parle de corruption et de sousdoiements divers, rien d’étonnant a priori. Le Daily Show de Jon Stewart y allait alors de son petit effet en nous montrant une pin-up arborant un t-shirt moulant sur lequel on pouvait lire: JACK-abram-OFF (plus ou moins littéralement, un jackoff est un branleur).
Abramoff and his 5 counts of felony have been, for some time now, the target of media (and, on top of that, a nasty nightmare for republicans as well). And since it’s about big money and corruption, it seems only natural. At that time, Jon Stewart’s Daily Show was for instance showing us a pinup wearing a tight t-shirt where one could read JACK-abram-OFF.

Humm… Ca vous dit quelque chose ? Quand on sait que Jon Stewart sera le présentateur de la toute prochaine cérémonie des Oscars, on se rend compte que le monde est bien petit… Enfin bref, ma petite cervelle, elle, avait fait le lien ! Politique, cinéma et télévision : même combat.
Well… Doesn’t that ring a bell ? And when one knows that Jon Stewart will be hosting the upcoming Academy Award Ceremony, it gets pretty clear that the world is rather small. Long story short, my little brain connected the dots ! Politics, movies and tv : all the same.
L’étape suivante était prévisible. Puisque que les nominés pour les Oscars ne sont pas encore connues, il a fallu se replier sur ceux des Golden Globes. Et parmi les meilleurs films, on trouvait, de et avec Georges Clooney, Good Night, and Good Luck. Ajouter à ça le fait que le sujet du film est le bras de fer mediatico-politique entre Joseph McCarthy (la chasse au sorcière des années 50, façon sénateur du Wisconsin) et Edward Murrow (journaliste et présentateur au CBS de l’époque) et vous n’aurez pas de mal à deviner ce que j’ai vu ce week-end.
Donc, à propos de ce film en noir et blanc, pour faire court et en trois mots : instructif et inspiré.
The next step was quite predictable. Since Award Nominees are yet to be annouced, the Golden Globe’s would have to do. And among the Best Movie Picture nominees, I found a movie by and starring Georges Clooney Good Night, and Good Luck. Add to this that the fact the movie is about the mediatic and politic fight between the Junior Senator of Wisconsin Joseph McCarthy and Edward Murrow (journalist and host for CBS in the 50’s), and you should have a pretty damn good idea of what I watched this week-end.
So, about this black and white movie, to make it sweet and short : educative and inspired.
